Music-Map: Nickel Creek
Tonight Sue and I went to see Nickel Creek perform. I’ve been a fan for quite a while so I was somewhat disturbed and HIGHLY amused by their cover of Britney Spear’s Toxic.
Just so I could say that, I went out and found a mapping related site that I could link to. Gnod’s music map is a database driven app that builds links between related artists. The output is a graphical ‘map’ similar to the new Digg 3.0 Flash tools.
Gnod is a self-adapting system that learns about the outer world by asking its visitors what they like and what they don’t like. In this instance of gnod all is about music. Gnod is kind of a search engine for music you don’t know about. It will ask you what music you like and then think about what you might like too.

Nickel Creek is a great progressive bluegrass band! They have played many times at the GreyFox BG Festival in Ancramdale, NY – I remember bashful Chris Thile at his first GreyFox (might have been Winterhawk) gig in the mid 90’s and when he ever played his mando… we were awe struck by his talent. I think the Gnod music mapping of Nickel Creek is a false indicator – should have been more folks like Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Ronnie McCoury, Bela Fleck etc.. nearby in my opinion! At least David Grisman is close by 🙂
You ought to try Live Plasma sometime… rather similar, but prettier.
