IBM’s new Enterprise Mashup

That’s right, IBM is going Web 2.0. On Thursday at a PHP conference in New York, IBM announced their own Enterprise Mashup, which will use web services to provide news, weather, traffic, wiki technology, and yes, maps. Rod Smith, IBM’s VP of emerging internet technologies, acknowledged the rapid growth of Web 2.0-related applications and predicted that all middleware vendors will have mashup makers within a few years. This is another example of the rising prominence of SOA (Services-Oriented Architecture), where desktop client applications are largely portals to services running on centralized back-end servers.
