Geospatial Technologies Round-up
If you would like to help, please check out the list of commercial and open source desktop GIS solutions I have started. If you know of a software not on the list yet or if you have experience using some of the less mainstream packages please leave a comment at the bottom of the list page. We hope to discuss this on Feb 4, so please leave comments by then.
Note: If this is your first comment I have to approve it before it shows up on the page. We do this to keep the spam out.

I’ve a list of various GIS software, and pointers to others’ lists, bookmarked here:
http://www.connotea.org/user/Declan/tag/GIS+software?num=50
I’ve just added a few more; it includes some lesser-known academic desktop GIS software, such as Diva
http://www.diva-gis.org/.
I see one missing for sure:
JUMP
http://www.jump-project.org/
Also, while it’s not really a desktop GIS package, I use GDAL/OGR often. (www.gdal.org / http://www.gdal.org/ogr)
Depends on how you define GIS, I guess. Is a viewer that allows analysis of data, but not data creation, a GIS? Or what about WorldWind, or GoogleEarth? I say yes. With that in mind, here are some additional programs, some which are clearly GIS by any definition, and some which require a broader definition:
