NASA is Everywhere!

NASA has posted a pretty cool new site to help people understand how they have impacted everyone’s life in so many ways. It’s called NASA @ Home and City. They’re want to remind everyone that they’re not just about “space”. While a lot of their technologies really aren’t spatial (cosmetics, for example), there is an impressive display of geographic related materials they have impacted. Stuff from environmental cleanup and monitoring to simply travel technologies. There’s plenty on the site which you’ll recognize as NASA technology, but I’ll bet there’s more than one thing you never thought was related to NASA. I have to say I was surprised about how much they impacted large plasma displays, for example.

If you spend enough money on research, you are bound to come up with something. However, what inventions will we never know about because the money to fund them was stolen from taxpayers? I am certain that private investors would have spent their own money more efficiently than bureaucrats doling it out to crony government contractors. We will never know what a free people could have invented in a free and competitive market.

Oh, goodie, another Flash-hindered NASA site. And I guess we’ll have to wait for the kind of monitors they’re using that makes them think dark blue text on a black sky background is legible.
