This was a very interesting discussion. One thing you didn’t mention was having the students share their experiences with geography in their favorite media (TV/Internet/book…) with the class. Perhaps each student could be expected to identify and share a clip/passage once during the semester in class or post it via a discussion group for comment? The idea is to get them to “put on” and “keep on” their geographic eyeglasses when they leave the classroom.
One of my students blew us away with a clip from Caprica when we discussed e-paper! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU4P6Z_Q_NM
