What are the geospstial charities…
Nov 3rd, 2007 | By Jesse | Category: avsp, generalSo it is the giving time of the year. Altruistically it is because of the time of year with the holidays, realistically folks are looking for last minute tax breaks…either way, I was wondering what charitable organizations are out there that fall under the Geography or geospstial umbrella. If you know of an organization feel free to leave the info in the comments below or email me with the info. We will include the information that we gather in a future episode of avsp.

The formation of GIS: YES addresses a need for a centralized community resource in GIS in Education. Past efforts have been tied to specific projects, individuals, agencies or businesses. While they have created excellent resources for the community, the GIS in Education community still has a need for a central portal for creating cohesion and consistency. GIS: YES is a grassroots effort to provide this essential portal for the GIS in Education Community.
Vision Statement
GIS: YES offers an opportunity to enhance GIS education through innovative educational practices and products, through research and through making GIS more accessible and interdisciplinary and therefore applicable to greater audiences. With our roots in collaborative principles, we will adapt to meet the needs of the evolving technologies and its users. We see GIS: YES as a PORTAL for GIS in Education and related technology resources. This goal will be accomplished by targeting 5 major areas: Partnerships, Outreach, Research, Training, Advocacy and Learning through teaching and curriculum.
