Manhattan Timeformations

Yes, that’s right, I am finally back posting. While Jesse has been keeping up with the blog, I have been working on a big demo project for our geovisualization work that has really had me pulling my hair out. But I think it is really coming together. On that note, I just finished looking at the website for another cool geovisualization project, Manhattan Timeformations.

This project uses computer modelling and interactive animations to try to show the changes to Manhattan’s skyscraper districts over time by various layers on top of each other that show different time slices for skyscrapers, elevated trains and other related features. Showing change over time is one of the things that we are struggling to do effectively, and this project is an interesting attempt to provide a solution. There is a permanent exhibit for Manhattan Timeformations at the Skyscraper Museum in Battery Park City in New York, so the website only shows short animations of the project’s models, but it is still definitely worth a look.
