I have posted the book review for Remote Sensing for GIS Managers under the columns section. I did a book corner on Episode 46 that is a little more detailed than the 500 words we limit our book reviews to. Either way, it is a solid reference book at a good price.

Ok, technically not geography, but it’s been awhile since we’ve blogged anything about Joss Whedon’s Firefly universe, so I am remedying that now. Serenity fans have set up a worldwide series of screenings (47 at last count) of the Firefly-based movie Serenity to benefit the charity Equality Now, which will take place between June 22-30th. As you all may know I am a fan of the widget. Konfabulator was wonderful, Yahoo Widgets made them more ubiquitous, and of course Apple stole widgets from Konfabulator (and Widgets in Vista…have I mentioned Vista is very pretty). This site has three views of the globle (which I find very attractive, by the by) and nifty 3D icons showing sources of geothermal, solar, wind, and [...]

I saw the link to GeoTagThings.com on SlashGeo and had the idea to make a map of our calendar, linking to the conference web page. I have dumped out a KML from the site for Google Earth which I will keep up to date and will use for a mash-up in the near future, but [...]

ESA News has a really interesting article about a prototype satellite navigation system for the visually impaired that was successfully tested in Madrid, Spain. The system uses a mobile phone with a location receiver and a voice synthesizer. The phone’s position is tracked accurately enough to give turn-by-turn directions in an urban setting, which are [...]
