The New Yorker recently ran an interesting article entitled Annals of the Road: Getting There that looks at maps and mapping technologies from a few angles including riding in a Navteq ground-truthing vehicle. A different perspective than what you normally get as someone in the industry and well researched. An interesting read, but be sure [...]

Here’s an interesting site that shows the US broken down by religion. Unfortunately, the maps are all stand alone GIF files, one for each denomination. It would be interesting to see this on an interactive online map. Given that, the maps are pretty interesting to see. Jesse’s note – Also check out the IMS based [...]

I haven’t blogged a mashup in awhile, but I saw this on GISUser and it’s a pretty cool resource: a Google Maps mashup of universities that have podcasts, webcasts, and OCWs (OpenCourseWare) available. So, if you want some free educatin’, check it out.

A List Apart has an interesting article on how to use CSS to make online maps more accessible to visually impaired people. It’s a pretty quick rundown, but I think the chart sums up the features nicely. It should be interesting to see what (if anything) changes when a more GIS-centric organization like ESRI enters into the [...]

For those of you who live and travel in California, the Invisible 5 Audio Project is a unique self-guided audio tour of the landscape along I-5 between San Francisco and LA. What makes it different is that it is put together by a collaborative of environmental and other watchdogs groups to give a very different [...]

Fantom Planet came across an interesting bit of information on the Intergraph site. Sony has decided to provide Intergraph $15 million for worldwide access to their patent portfolio, but it isn’t just one way, Intergraph will have access to select Sony patents…though they will still have to pay royalties. Fantom Planet was talking PS3, I [...]

The Hive Group created this cool visualization of population facts for the world’s countries using 2004 CIA Factbook data. In addition to representing countries in a tree structure that can be organized by continent, area, population or density, there are also slider filters that let you zoom up and down the tree structure. Definitely worth [...]
