Microsoft awards academic grants for Virtual Earth research projects

On Feb 16th, Microsoft announced the winners of its Trustworthy Computing and Virtual Earth academic grants competition. 23 grants were awarded, totaling $1 million. The maximum amount for each grant was $50,000 and 8 recipients were awarded grants for Virtual Earth RFP, which is “designed to encourage university research in areas relevant to digital geography, including spatio-temporal databases, routing, computer vision, ontologies, map user interfaces and visualization.” For more information on the grant awards and to find out who the 8 winners were, check out the press release at Microsoft’s website
